Identify the current version
Include a drawing number, revision and date. Use the same reference in the enquiry message. If a previous drawing has changed, say which revision replaces it and explain the important changes.
Show the overall form
Provide enough views to understand the shape and the relationship between its features. A dimensioned sketch can be a useful starting point when the form and the confirmed dimensions are clear.
Define the material and thickness
State the metal, grade or alloy and thickness where these have been specified. The drawn outline alone does not describe the base material or establish the intended performance.
Give the dimensions that matter
Include overall sizes, hole diameters and positions, bend locations and critical fitting dimensions. Identify any feature with a defined tolerance or a relationship to an adjoining component.
Describe visible surfaces and finish
Mark which surfaces will be visible and include the specified finish or appearance reference. State any relevant edge or joining details defined by the project.
Connect the drawing to the quantity
Make the required number of each component clear. If one drawing contains several parts, give them separate references and quantities so the intended scope can be understood.
